Product description

Hollywood war drama inspired by the story of Scott O'Grady, the US fighter pilot who was shot down over Bosnia in 1995 and managed to find his way back to base without being captured. After photographing some Bosnian Serb troops hidden in a forest, Lieutenant Chris Burnett (Owen Wilson) and his co-pilot Stackhouse (Gabriel Macht) are shot down by an anti-aircraft missile. Stackhouse breaks his leg in the crash, and Burnett goes off to get help, but the Serbs soon locate Stackhouse and execute him. Burnett now finds himself alone in hostile country and sets out on the long and dangerous journey back to safety. Meanwhile, his commanding officer (Gene Hackman), against all army and NATO rules, sets out on a mission to locate and rescue Burnett.

    An outstanding film that can only hint at the conflict with the East European struggles. Owen Wilson comes up good from the off, as does Gene Hackman. None of the actions are exaggerated or over stunted, they are within the realms of reality.
    It is impossible to describe the film without spoiling the plot for those yet to see this. Only to say that a slap happy serviceman unwittingly steps into action... with horrifying consequences. Days pass without hope of being rescued. The full horror of events for civilians become evident. The final frontier faced by Wilson is frustrating at one point, but this is the urgency and confusion of a battle situation. The final scene is filmed exceptionally well. Follow up info discloses that culprits for atrocities were brought to justice.
    The outline of this film does closely follow a real life event and while legality about disclosure became an issue, 'Behind Enemy Lines' is an important historic portrayal of a recent part of European history that has yet to be fully exposed.
