Product Description
From Guy Ritchie, the writer/director of the acclaimed films Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, comes RocknRolla, a story of sex, thugs and rock 'n roll. When a Russian mobster orchestrates a crooked land deal, millions of dollars are up for grabs. And all of London's criminal underworld wants a piece of the action.
From Amazon.co.uk
The film career of Guy Ritchie has endured a few bumps in recent years, with a collection of generally forgettable films from a man clearly capable of so much more. Thank goodness then for RocknRolla, which marks a smashing return to form, as he heads once more to the criminal underworld of London.
This time, Ritchie is playing far closer to the likes of Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and while RocknRolla may see the director playing on safer ground than of late, it doesn’t take long for the decision to be vindicated. The plot surrounds a real-estate job with millions at stake, and it gives ample excuse to unleash a collection of raw gangsters and tough guys into the mix, who each fancy a bit of the action.
Thus, RocknRolla brings together Gerard Butler’s Scottish gangster, Tom Wilkinson’s London crime lord, Toby Kebbell’s drug-addicted musician and the likes of Thandie Newton, Mark Strong and Jeremy Piven too. And Ritchie’s cast serve him really well, making ample mileage out of the lines they’re given.
Granted, all of this is hardly fresh territory for the director, but RocknRolla is nonetheless funny, action-packed and a good British mob film to while away an evening with. Welcome back, Mr Ritchie… --Jon Foster
Synopsis
“I own this town.” But owning is getting expensive for old-school London gangster Lenny Cole (Tom Wilkinson). A wealthier foreign mob is moving in with a riverfront property swindle. A small-timer (Gerard Butler) and his crew think they can play both sides and become big time. Now add a hard-as-ice accountant (Thandie Newton), a rocker playing dead to boost sales, wannabe music moguls (Jeremy Piven and Chris Bridges), a missing painting and a mad mosh of money and muscle, and youve got this funny, smash-mouth smackdown of sexthugs&rocknroll from writer/director Guy Ritchie (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch).

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 September 2010I watched this film on Sky a couple of times and found myself laughing my head off at times. Why? because it was good old "South London" humour.
I don't usually go for films with scenes of violence but frankly, this film was so over the top that the humour outwayed the violence.
All the characters were memorable, particularly Archie, Johnny, Onetwo and "The Accountant" Oh! and I nearly forgot "Sidney".
My criteria for buying a DVD is whether I could watch a film more than once and this film comes into that catagory. I am looking forward to the sequel.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 January 2011This film is another triumph for Guy Ritchie. I dont usally like films like this but as soon as i saw the trailer i was hoooked. This film never gets old with funny one liners and monologues from all the characters which have me and my friends quoting to eachother. Acting is amazing espcially from Tom Hardy, Mark Strong and Toby kebbell and the many more of the cast. This is definatly worth the money infact its a bargain. With Action and Comedy this kept the film entertaining every minute.
A definate must see film!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 February 2010This film is an amazing piece of work from Guy Richie.
From the very beginning to the very end this film will keep you interested and entertained.
It has a brilliant soundtrack, good cinematography, and a strong storyline with good actors.
The one fault with this film is that you have to really listen to what everyone says to get the storyline properly, but if you buy this cheap DVD then you can watch as much as you like so you won't miss a thing.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 February 2009Not bad when taken as a single independent movie, but when viewed as a Guy Ritchie movie some disappointment definitely surfaces.
It follows that classic Guy Ritchie model, where a bunch of charachters get intertwined and the plot continues to thicken throughout the entire movie and is abruptly resolved at the end.
Pros:
The Characters in the moive have that unique English freshness to them as opposed to American gangster movies and Guy has not carried much from previous characters in similar moives like Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. Instead the charaters have their own uniqueness and depth.
Personally I liked the slight political incorrectness in the movie. The character Lenny kept voicing his frustration with the imigrants in the country quite boldly! (not necessairly a bad or good thing... but these things are real)
Also, I liked the sleek character of Archie! His cool, calm, and collected demeanor in addition to his sharp look added to the character's appeal! However, you do get the feeling that he does get frustrated with dealing with Lenny's ego issues, and maybe even thinks he could easily be as good, if not better than Lenny. Your typical young gangster, who's works for the top dog!
Mr. Johnny Quid!!! His character just annoyed me!!! Not in a bad way where I hated him for it, but in a way that he was supposed to be annoying as a crackhead!!! But the more the movie goes on the more you realize he's not just some stoner junkie!!!
The soundtrack was good but not great! The soundtracks used in the other two Guy moives were much better!
I liked the action scene with the Russians and the part where the Russians were about to dice up old One Two and Archie walks in!! But the action scenes in the movie leave a bit to be desired!
I loved the crayfish torture!!! (and the crack about the Americans and American crayfish!) A bit of a twist on Bricktop's feeding people to pigs (from Snatch)!
The twist at the end was really unforeseen!!! I didn't see that coming!
Cons:
The main thing is that this movie uses the same model as the other more poopular Guy Ritchie movies like Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels.... but sadly not close to being as good!!! I was hoping to see something of the same calibre but I was slightly disappointed with this one!
The character of Lenny.... O.K, I'll admit he is a bit different than the previous bad guys in Guy's other movies but compared to Bricktop (from Snatch), he's a rich puff with too much ego!!! Frankly not as interesting a character!!!
Also, the use of Russians in both this movie and Snatch... come on... be a bit creative! Plus the Russian goons in this movie are not even close to being as interesting as 'Boris the Blade' from Snatch!
What about, Vinny, Solomon, Bullet-tooth Tony, Avi, Tyrone, and the rest of the lot from Snatch?? The depth in these characters is not there in this movie, you don't really feel close to these characters... very shallow character depth.. you don't connect to them!
All in all, not a bad movie... wouldn't mind seeing it again but not as many times as I have seen Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels! The more you watch the other two and then watch this one the more your disappointment will grow! I really think Mr. Guy Ritchie peaked with Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brillamment drôle …et terriblement sexy!
