Product description

British drama based on the true story of a Jamaican baby who loses his parents and is subsequently adopted and raised by an elderly white couple in London. During his childhood Cass (Nonso Anozie) is forced to endure racist bullying, until one day he takes matters into his own hands and responds to the constant taunts with a violent outburst. Cass becomes addicted to the buzz of fighting and soon becomes one of the most feared and respected men in the city. Unfortunately, his new way of life eventually leads to an assassination attempt against him. Cass survives but is left with an important choice - to fully embrace the violence that has shaped his life or to make a completely new start.

    Worth watching
  • Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 January 2010
Ive seen this film twice now. Once when I hired it and again when I bought it as I was very impressed. Other reviews keep comparing it to other movies of the same genre or to the book of the same name. If you just watch and enjoy this movie unto its self it is an excellent film. Agreeably it misses out chunks that were in the book, but how much can you fit into a movie? I think its very well done and appreciated some of the more poignant moments as well as the anarchy parts. A lot of reviews say the actress who played Cass' partner badly acted the part. I tend to agree with that, but otherwise this film is great and it made you feel for Cass considering the hard life he had particularly when he was a child.

I particularly liked the fact that the real Cass discreetly starred in the movie as one of his own right hand men. Also I liked the role Tamer Hassan played too as Ray - a Mr Big type character who cared for Cass. Additionally look out for Frank Bruno - he had no speaking parts though. All in all I recommend this movie to any one who likes football hooligan films or just fancies watching a something slightly different.

    Thanks for reading this

    Miles.

A facinating film that i thoroughly enjoyed. Well written, directed and played by all actors involved. A real insight into the life of a man involved in football related hooliganism. A West Ham supporter that from a young age became involved and then lead the notorious ICF (inter city firm)throughout the 1970's.
This film highlights the highs and lows of Cass Pennant's life.
A man now who's a highly regarded author and publisher.
Anyone who's into films like Football Factory, Rise of the Foot Soilders, Bonded by blood etc. Watch this!
It's by far, personally one of my favorite films.

Cass is based on a true story about a young black man who was adopted by a white couple during Thatcher's reign as PM. It is a low budget movie with fine performances by the cast. You will probably recognise some of the actors e.g. Natalie Press (My Summer of Love - brilliant movie), Tammer Hassan (Layer Cake). The soundtrack is addictive and the movie is well directed (Jon Baird - Filth).

Had a copy of this that I lent out a long time back. Should have 'sent the boys round' to get it back but bought a new copy instead. Fascinating studio on a Cass and the way that his life turned round due to different circumstances. An interesting study of an era in the 80's after the problematic days of the 70's footy crowds continued. Being a Hammer since 1963 and growing up with a disabled father on a council estate, made it a bit more personal to me. I'm pleased that Cass has since turned his life round, as I have too.

I've seen a few in the football violence type films, so gave this one a go. I was not dissapointed.
Bottom line is, if you like the football violence etc, and with something of a true story, then you'll like this one. Also, this is another fantastic film about the ICF, the other being Rise of the Foot Soldier.
Both Cass and Carlton Leach are well known in the ICF, so it was good to see his background in this film.

Decent enough football hooligan film with a soft centre and worth a watch if you enjoyed the firm, awaydays, ID etc. The film is 3 stars but the blue ray picture quality is appalling. I would not even give it one star. It would be poor for a dvd and is the worst i have ever seen. If buying the film, save your money and buy the dvd not the blue ray.

Very violent but clearly to be expected in a film about football hooliganism. However, this is so much more that violence, one boys struggles living with his adopted white parents, overcoming adversity and the bonds hw makes into adult life. Very entertaining

5.0 out of 5 stars Very much more then a hooligans movie only!
Reviewed in Italy on 24 September 2017
A real wonderful movie, that give many causes for reflection, in particular about how much a person can suffers in his entire life, continuosly discriminated, because his skin and because his name, after just been left by his natural parents... someone should ask himself why a person can fall in violence in "so easy" way, before condamn he regardless of his reasons!!!

A very strong woman, his Mother, who supported he until her end, taught to everyone the very sense of Life...

In addition, for a foreigner as I'm, I think this movie should be a very good training to improve "cockney" accent, because who study english language do it with Received Pronunciation only, but that's very different then many other english accents. English subtitles were useful to understand some very hard words, and I would suggest to the Staff about add them to extra movie parts too ("Cass Pennant in his own words", "It's a casual life", etc.). About second audio version, it's very interesting (you can switch on it with menu) because it's an overlapped comment made by authors (use this mode after you just saw the movie a couple of times, in my opinion).

Any Firm have any skin: we all have the same skin. One skin, one Firm.

Cheers from Italy, thank you a lot Cass.

    PS:

Anyone have nowdays news about Prentice, Freeman and Ray? Thank's.
