- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 March 2025An all-time favourite of mine of course I’m going to recommend
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 January 2023The first one of these was surprinsingly effective, showing what can be done in this genre with very little money but a very clever script, director, and actors.
This sequel is as good as the first, I think, possibly even a shade better overall, given that with this the audience knows what is coming but it still manages to scare.
With this film, they have upped the budget a bit to allow for a slightly larger cast, which works very well, as the potential to scare is increased with more rooms shown (rather than just the bedroom and the sitting room in the first one) and more people (and a dog, always effective in these sorts of things) for the viewer to watch.
It is genuinely scary and suspenseful, even for an old cynic like me.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 March 2011I was persuaded to watch the first Paranormal Activity by my girlfriend and as I'd heard that it was a good film I decided to give it a go.
Now, I'm not usually scared by any horror film, mainly because they are made in a very "hollywoodised" way. Paranormal Activity however definitely freaked me out, especially the scene of the main character being dragged screaming from her bed. I still don't like to sleep with one leg outside the sheets and I have to sleep with the door closed! I think the reason the film succeeded in giving me the willies was the fact that it is filmed in a much more realistic way i.e. there is no hollywood acting or unbelievable dialogue etc. The idea of telling the story from the point of view of a camera was genius and it really adds to the suspense of the film.
As soon as I had seen the first I ordered Paranormal Activity 2. This story is set before, during and after the first film and is shown through the similar vantage of security cameras. I won't ruin the story but the creepy events are very similar to those seen in the first film. Unfortunately, if you have seen the first then the second film is unlikely to have the same creepy effect. This being said, it does not take away any enjoyment from seeing the hauntings which occur.
The best part about PA2 is the way it explains the events of the first film. I won't ruin how it does this but believe me, you will actually like the first film more if you've seen the second as it all makes more sense. The ending of the second film leaves a definite opportunity for a second sequel and I've heard there will indeed be a paranormal activity 3 so I can't wait for that!
So, final note: even if you don't think a film can scare you, give both Paranormal Activities a go, you may surprise yourself. Masterfully shot, good acting and an intruiging story line.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 November 2011I was anxious to see this in the cimema as the trailer looked good, being pregnant at the time it was released I thought it would not be a good idea to watch it as it involved a baby. I ordered this then when I seen the trailer for the 3rd film so that I could be up to date before watching the 3rd. I was disapointed after watching it as the first one was so good and this one was not so, but after now seeing paranormal activity 3 this film does play an important part in the whole story. Still scary though and I sometimes had to cover my eyes.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 January 2024Awesome love these films
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 January 2012The Paranormal Activity movie series is definitely a BIG must-have for horror buffs (like myself).
Even though I am watching the show a second time (the first was in the cinema), it still gives me the chills.
Though I much prefer the first and third installments, I would say that Paranormal Activity 2 is still a worthy competitor.
The DVD also includes extras which are highly entertaining, so definitely a must have!!!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 May 2022Everything about it was so good, already ready to watch again
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 July 2015Not so much a sequel as an over lapping prequel. As it set prior to the first one, leads up to the first, then jumps to directly after the first ones climax. It fills in a lot of the back story from the first and you could watch them out of sequence or even re edit by watch this one to the point where the first starts, then watch the entire first, then watch the last few scenes of this one. It's as well made as the first and maintains the atmosphere of the first. It has a slightly larger cast of characters and is not so claustrophobic, is a good fit, story wises, but lacks the foreboding of the first. It has it's moments and if you liked the first it is worth seeing and if you really liked the first then you'll want to see this for the missing pieces of the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sa c'est du frisson

5.0 out of 5 stars MIEDO SUTIL

4.0 out of 5 stars Solides Werk

4.0 out of 5 stars The Demons Are Back
The demons are back in this frightening sequel/prequel to the highly successful original. "Paranormal Activity 2" focuses on Dan (Brian Boland), his wife Kristi (Sprague Grayden), Dan's daughter Ali, and newborn son Hunter. Kristi's sister Katie was in the original film, and she and her boyfriend Micah appear in part 2 as well. Their inclusion in this movie serves as a bridge to the events taking place in part 1.
Almost immediately, the supernatural forces converge on young Hunter. The loyal family dog can sense that something's wrong, as he spends most of his time guarding Hunter's crib. Things begin innocently enough; a few pans falling down, doors being opened, and the pool cleaner climbing out of the pool. But, as the movie goes along, things get progressively worse. Soon, Hunter is being held in the air by an unseen force, and Kristi is literally dragged from Hunter's room. Despite these happenings, Dan is reluctant to admit that anything is wrong. He even refuses to view footage recorded from his high-priced security system. Daughter Ali has begun researching ghosts and spirits online with a friend in hopes of finding out about what is going on.
The ending is truly scary and ties things together between parts 1 and 2 very nicely. It sure looks like a "Paranormal Activity 3" is in the offing.
I've enjoyed both "Paranormal Activity" films. These films rely on psychological terror to scare the viewer, and they succeed very well. There is a definite terror build-up as the movie goes along, and each time a video camera sequence appears, one can be sure that something scary is going to happen. I thought part 2 started out a little slow, but as it went along, it definitely gets much scarier.
I recommend "Paranormal Activity 2" to any fans of psychological terror. The scenes are truly frightening and will leave you spellbound.
